Chen Chienmin 陳建民(1954-) is currently a professor of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at Asia University in Taichung, Taiwan. Before that, he had been teaching in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, National Chung Hsing University for 27 years. He won Liang Shi-Qui Literary Award: Translation Contest in Verse, 1992 and Liang Shi-Qui Literary Award: Creative Writing Contest in Prose, 1990. As to the translation of the poems by Chien Chengchen in this context, it is worth noticing that the poet's use of conjunctions in the original poems is very limited in order to reflect both his investment for the beauty of Chinese language and his featured way of philosophical, aesthetic meditation through "images"; therefore, the translation of them struggles to reveal as such and, particularly, show the rhythm of the poet's voice, the flow of his consciousness, and, above all, his long chain of images.
